  2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion Regional Seminars

Additional Seminar Added

As a result of the success of the four regional seminars to mark the 2010 EU Year to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion, the Social Inclusion Division have requested the CWC and partners to organise a fifth regional seminar in Donegal in September 2010 (September 28th). This seminar will include an additional workshop (through Irish) on Poverty and Social Exclusion in the Gaeltacht. For further information or to register your interest please email 2010@cwc.ie

COMMUNITY and voluntary organisations are in crisis, with more than €80 million in direct state support to be removed from the sector this year.

Irish Examiner - Amid claims the Government is zoning in on the community and voluntary sector more than other areas, the cuts could result in at least 4,500 job losses. Commenting on the crisis Community Workers Co- operative national coordinator Ann Irwin states that "core service providers are being forced to close or massively reduce provision". Making 'good society' without a community sector?

Carnegie UK Trust launched Making Good Society, the final report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Future of Civil Society in the UK and Ireland on Thursday April 23rd. Realignment of departments - Realignment of issues - CWC statement

Pat Carey, TD has been assigned to the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs. The new Department will incorporate responsibility for social inclusion policy and family policy from the Department of Social and Family Affairs and for equality, disability, integration and human rights from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. Mary White has been appointed a Junior Minister with responsibility for Equality, Human Rights and Integration.
