The editorial committee of Working for Change: the Irish Journal of Community Work are beginning to work on the second edition of the Journal. To mark the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, the theme of this edition will be Combating Poverty & Social Exclusion: the role of Community Development.
Articles will outline and discuss issues, experiences and social problems that are the subject of community work interventions or on situations where community work processes are used to produce an equality or social inclusion outcome. Articles may present examples of community work or community work issues at local, regional, national or global level. These examples may be at different levels and from different spaces and perspectives. Articles should both outline and analyse the situations they present and should focus on the challenges and learning emerging from community work. Articles that comply with the guiding principles below will be accepted. Articles must:
- Demonstrate a commitment to community work approaches, processes and practices.
- Reflect a commitment to influencing change and impacting on the social, political and economic issues that affect communities experiencing social exclusion and inequality.
- Confront prejudice and discrimination on the basis of gender, ethnicity, class, religion, socio economic status, age, sexuality, skin colour or disability.
- Be mindful of the need to challenge inequitable power relationships within society and promotes the redistribution of resources in a more just and equitable fashion.
- Are emancipatory in thrust and content and seek to promote processes which include and empower marginalised and excluded groups within society.
- Demonstrate solidarity with the interests of those experiencing social exclusion.
- Seek to present alternative ways of working - promote dynamic, innovative and creative processes and approaches.
The Journal is designed to be an integrated publication welcoming articles from a range of perspectives and viewpoints.
All articles will be peer reviewed. The purpose of this process is to support people to bring the work to completion.
If you are interested in submitting an article for publication please indicate your interest in doing so with a very general outline of the theme you would like to write about to annirwin@cwc.ie before Friday February 5th 2010.
