CWC statement in relation to FAS
The CWC today issued a statement in relation to the irregularities in FÁS stating that initiatives provided by FÁS are crucial to work in communities.
In a statement issued in response to the recent debate in relation to irregularities in FÁS, the Community Workers' Co-operative stated that the initiatives provided by FÁS are crucial to work in communities. The Chairperson of the CWC, Siobhán O'Donoghue, told RTÉ's The Frontline programme that FÁS initiatives, particularly Community Employment (CE) and Jobs Initiative (JI) enables work to be done in communities in a cost effective, accessible, efficient way, that could not otherwise be done - such as homework clubs, childcare programmes, maintenance, etc.
Another key benefit of FÁS schemes is that they enable opportunities to people from disadvantaged areas or groups, to enter the workplace and undergo training and education that brings them closer to the job market and to being job ready. CE and JI provide opportunities that they would not get otherwise.
